Welcome!

I only started my Instagram account in December last year (and now I've started this blog), but I have actually been painting my nails and doing nail designs regularly for about 5 years now. Back in 2012 I even started a private blog to which I posted photos and descriptions of my designs, with the idea that I might one day move to a real blog. Here's a photo from its first post, which to my memory is also the very first time I tried painting more than one colour on my nails:

Where it all began. I'm actually quite impressed that I cleaned up my cuticles!

However I never got around to blogging for real. I was aware that taking poorly-lit photos with my phone in tiny university rooms just wasn't going to cut it. I had been following other nail bloggers and YouTubers too, and I could see that getting to their level of quality called for a lot of commitment. Eventually I even stopped posting on my private blog - it only got 6 posts!

But throughout this time I continued painting, and I posted photos to my private Instagram account. I still followed a few nail blogs and YouTube channels, but somehow I was actually unaware of the wide, wide world of the nails of Instagram. (Probably because I kept my posts private.) In August 2015 a friend suggested I start posting them publicly, and we even thought up the 'novel' idea of making sped-up 15-second nail-painting videos. (How little we knew!!) That night I searched Instagram to see if such videos had been done - and thus began my descent into the Instagram nail world.

Finally in December 2015 I started @polilish on Instagram, but I can't say very much in the captions and I really like talking about my nails, so I had to revive my old plans to start a blog!

To start things off, here's my most recent nail design.

Purple roses stamping nail art by polilish
Quite an improvement!

For this relatively simple stamped design I used:
  • Base coat: UNT "Ready for Takeoff" peel-off base coat (for speedy removal when I change my manicure!)
  • Pale purple: Essie "Bangle Jangle" (2 coats)
  • Darker purple: OPI "Pamplona Purple"
  • Stamping: UberChic 4-02 plate, MoYou London's rectangular squishy stamper
  • Top coat: Glisten & Glow "HK Girl"

    1. Thanks Jill - nail art is great, and I love that I basically 'wear' them with me all the time!
