ABC Challenge 'C': Constellation nails

It's week 3 of Nail Polish Society's ABC challenge! (Follow the link to find out more about it.) Here's my interpretation - 'C' for constellations. Read on for the details, more photos, and a video tutorial.

Essie's 'Starry Starry Night' would have been quite appropriate for this!
I started with a dark blue colour to evoke a night sky. ILNP 'Lulu' is a lovely inky blue crelly (semi-translucent polish), with a generous helping of holographic glitter. This takes two to three coats for opacity, depending on how thick each coat is. On a couple of my fingers I needed a third coat, for others I was happy with two.

It wasn't very sunny when I took this photo, so the rainbow holo effect isn't very strong. It's more apparent in the close-up:

Over this, I stamped on the constellation patterns using a silver stamping polish, 'Silver King' by Colour Alike. The patterns are from Bundle Monster's BM-S306 plate from their Festival collection, and I actually got the idea for this design from the stamping plate itself. Here's the video:

As you can see, I used my clear jumbo stamper by Fab Ur Nails, as it helped with the placement of the patterns. However, I did struggle to get the stamper to pick up the images - I had to try many, many times before I managed to get that shot in the video! So eventually I switched to my always-reliable sticky stamper by MoYou London to complete the design.

On my middle and ring fingers I also added parts of the mountain pattern, which is from the same stamping plate.

I was worried that the constellations might not look like constellations on my nails, but I think they look pretty good! Also - does anyone know if these represent any real constellations?

That's it for this week - see you next Friday with my take on the letter 'D'. I already have it planned in my head! Do leave me a comment below, and you can also follow these links to check out what other nail artists did with the letter 'C'.

    1. Thank you! The stamping did not go so smoothly, I had to use a small dotting tool to add a few missing silver dots ;)

  3. I don't see enough bloggers playing around ILNP polishes (me = guilty). I'm such a big fan of her recent collections. This is beautiful.

  4. Lulu was a great choice for a constellation mani because it looks like a beautiful sky! Just a little fyi Barbara doesn't use glitter in her polishes instead she uses the holographic and metallic flakes. Also I know that that colors are subjective but don't you think Lulu is more of a blurple than just a straight up blue?

    1. Thank you! Yeah I'm aware it's not actually glitter in the polish, but at the time when I wrote this I thought I would just use 'glitter' as a generic term for the shiny stuff :) Lulu definitely has a purple tinge to it, but to me it wasn't enough to call it a blurple.
