ABC Challenge 'L': Lace nails

It's week 12 of the ABC Challenge, which brings us to the letter 'L'! I wanted to try layered stamping, but as it's been a busy week I decided to do something simpler. I ended up with this freehand lace design, completely inspired by this design by Lacquerstyle.

Of course, the freehand aspect of this was not part of the initial plan to keep things simple! I was hoping to just stamp on a lace pattern, but that didn't work out. Read on for the details and more photos (no video tutorial this week).

Aside from completing the 'L' prompt, I also wanted this manicure to match a blue-and-white floral dress that I'm wearing to a wedding tomorrow. So I started with this beautiful polish by Cadillacquer called 'Rán' - an icy-blue holo filled with darker blue flakies and glitter. This photo was taken under direct sunlight, as I wanted to try to capture its holographic sparkle.

My plan was just to stamp over this - freehand is not something I'm comfortable with. Unfortunately, despite owning a sizeable stack of stamping plates, I only found one lace pattern. I was counting on it to work, but I tested it on my nail mat and I wasn't satisfied, as the pattern was too busy and didn't go well with Rán. However, at this point I had already painted Rán on, and I definitely did not want to take it off.

Then I remembered that I had seen tutorials of freehand lace designs that were potentially easy enough for me to follow, so after some searching on YouTube, I finally decided to attempt Lacquerstyle's floral lace pattern. I used 'White Knight' by MoYou London and the #10 nail art brush by piCture pOlish.

Definitely not the neatest, but given how little practice I had, I'm very happy with this! It looks better from a distance, so I have avoided taking a macro shot of this. ;)

It was a good thing that I was not planning on filming a tutorial this week, as there was no way I could have done this with a camera looming over me. Do check out Lacquerstyle's video if you would like to find out how to do this.

And finally, here are my nails and (part of) my dress!

I'll be back next Friday with my 'M' design, which I have a few ideas for so I'm looking forward to it! In the meantime, do check out all the other lovely 'L' manicures by following the links below.
