ABC Challenge 'N': Negative space half-moons

Hello again and welcome to another instalment of the ABC Challenge! This week it's time for the letter 'N', and I decided to go with 'negative space'. I didn't really have a concrete plan, I kind of made it up as I went, and I ended up with this half-moon design.

The main highlight of this turned out to be the fact that I used two thermal polishes, so depending on the temperature the design has completely different colours! Read on to see more of this '2-in-1' manicure - there's a video tutorial too.

I was a little constrained as to where the negative space could be in my design, because the top halves of my nails are more stained than the space towards my cuticles. So I decided I would go for a negative space half-moon - then I picked two thermals and the focus of this manicure went a whole other way! Here's the video tutorial, do check out the double colour shift at the end.

As mentioned in the video, both polishes are by Femme Fatale Cosmetics - the rose-to-gold (cold-to-warm) polish is called 'Lace Masquerade', and the brown-to-pink polish is 'Euna'.

I'm actually not so keen on the overall design - the colour shifting is very cool, but I think the stripe of Euna is a bit too wide. Especially when the manicure is in the cold state and it's rose and brown, I don't think the brown stripe looks very good. I definitely prefer this when its warm - the gold with the pink stripe looks more delicate.

Cold: 'Lace Masquerade' is a rosy red colour, 'Euna' is dark brown

Warm: 'Lace Masquerade' is gold, 'Euna' is light pink
'Lace Masquerade' has become a new favourite of mine, it's just so beautiful and the colours remind me of Chinese New Year. In the close-ups you can see that it's filled with gold flakes and a sprinkle of holo glitter.

Also, here's something no one told me about negative space that includes the space near the cuticle - it means I don't have to tidy up around my cuticles!! It's probably my least favourite part of doing a manicure.

That's it for this week! I'm really looking forward to next week's 'O' design, as I have something quite special lined up...But I will first be back next Wednesday with my second watermarble design for Watermarble Practice Wednesday. Stay tuned! And in the meantime, why not check out all the other 'N' designs done by other challenge participants by following the links below.
